NOW We Have the Proof!

“Bush Says Iran Is Source of Deadly Bombs”

On February 12, ”Not Paying Attention” I (and a few million other people) expressed doubts about the “evidence” exhibited by anonymous American officials that Iran is supplying the Iraq resistance with weapons.

Must we now reconsider our reaction? The Highest Source has spoken on this very day. I am emphasizing his proofs with capital letters.

“WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 -- President Bush said today HE IS CERTAIN that elements of the Iranian government are supplying deadly roadside bombs that kill American troops in Iraq, even if the innermost circle of the government is not involved.

“Mr. Bush said IT HAD BEEN ESTABLISHED BEYOND A DOUBT that a branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps known as the Quds Force is supplying Shiite groups inside Iraq

“WE KNOW THAT,” Mr. Bush said at a White House news conference.

“Mr. Bush rejected the idea that the intelligence about the Quds Forces might be no more reliable than that about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, which turned out not to exist. “I CAN SAY WITH CERTAINTY. . . blah, blah, blah.”

Yes, the Highest Source has spoken, but without an iota of evidence. Unfortunately, he is the Highest Source of Lies, not the highest source of truth. I wish some historian would tell me if Bush is not the most prolific and persistent liar in the history of the American presidency.

His administration is a fountain of lies, and yet his lies are so easily seen through and so easily shown to be false that most eight year olds can get away with their clumsy falsehoods better than Bush can . . . and yet he’s still doing it!

He is one of the great practitioners of the Big Lie, which I discussed on my other blog, FLIGHTS OF PEGASUS, January 12. (Sources are given there.)

The “Big Lie” technique consists in telling a lie so colossal that no one would believe anybody would have the nerve to try to pass off such a monstrous fabrication as the truth. The lie is so big that it must be true. The masses of people more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed and afraid to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even when the facts which prove a Big Lie to be a lie are brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. “For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world.”

Add to the Big Lie analysis what I wrote in “Not Paying Attention”: The main reason that Bush is able to float his lies on the sea of American public opinion is that most Americans don’t pay attention. They parrot the slogans they are told are respectable, and they believe in a few simple “facts” which are usually falsehoods.

So, while those of us who pay attention marvel that a man who has been repeatedly exposed as a liar can have the effrontery to stand up and lie again, and even to expect us to take him at his word as he has done in previous lies, there are plenty of Americans who even now are nodding their heads and parroting what he says.

You make a good point. Many people are easily deceived by a sociopath - especially if he tells them - with "conviction" - what they want to hear.

Aikane, you've touched on what I think is the most important quality of a successful leader: An appearance of complete self-confidence. Such a person is able to speak with great "conviction", as you say, and never appears to lack confidence in himself or what he is saying, no matter how he may really feel.

"GW" makes obvious efforts to appear confident, from his puffed-chested manly strides to the podium to his reiteration of the same nonsense no matter how many times it's shown to be baloney. . . but he impresses me not as confident but as one who's too stupid to recognize reality.

W. still has Vice and Rove to feed him "the" reality. Vice had "the" evidence of WMD's and links between Saddam and Osama; Rove had "the" numbers, and everyone else was wrong, just before Repubs lost both houses of Congress.

But Vice and Rove told the dry-heaving brat that he was a great man, and, besides, he heard the whisper of his "higher father."

The country's greater threat seems to be the people you described, though: the ones who are still true believers of whatever drivel falls from the emperor's lips. Bush will be gone in two years; they won't.

The 51% of voters who actually did vote for Bush TWICE!! can you imagine?? are known as "Sheeple." It pretty much fits, doesn't it?

If it were just Bush alone, he could easily be dismissed as a pathological lying crank, and would have never become governor of Texas, let alone reside in the White House. There does, however, appear to be a systematic attempt by a pernicious group of those in power to skew and manipulate the perceptions and opinions of those of us in the west.
I watched a documentary the other night
"The Power of Nightmares" .. Can't find a link to the actual doco, but this is what The Guardian says
and, spruking for the other side The National Review.

Today, on Meet the Press, Tony Snow was repeating his pack of lies, in spite of being confronted with the absence of evidence in the case they are trying to build. It is absolutely amazing how dictatorially these people are running the country!
I am dedicating much of my time these days to presenting some Facts about Iran

Hi Fleming,

Thanks again for your kind words about my blog and for linking to it.

What you say in this post is quite true, but I wanted to point out another element of the overall picture. American people have been told Big Lies for a very long time. Also, for various reasons, including the deliberately inculcated American ultra-nationalism, they are prone to accept those Big Lies. The third element that I would like to add is that systematic and systemic efforts are constantly underway to prevent the dissemination of the truth. I had a taste of this yesterday when I posted some excerpts from Ahmadinejad’s speeches and letters on DailyKos.

I found the great majority of the commenters to be quite receptive to this information – in fact, hungry for it. Very soon, though, I found myself subjected to personal attacks from two Zionists, one of whom has threatened to have the blog post pulled off!

Al S.E.,

Thanks for the very insightful comment. I would have responded much sooner, but my Internet connection frequently ground to a halt during the past 48 hours. Please return with more comments.

I've looked at the "Daily Kos" comments (URL in your comment above), and I admire the way you've withstood those incredibly irrational, illogical, vicious attacks by the Zionists. It might be repeated of you, "There stands Al like a stone wall." I hope many people read those comments so they can see the sly distortions and distractions used by the verbal defenders of Israel.

Their frenzy is particularly ridiculous in that you simply published translations of another man's words. One can detect how desperate the defenders of Israel are to avoid the truth.

Good work! I'm thinking of jumping into the fray but there are already so many comments that
I'm not sure mine would be noticed.

Thanks for your support, Fleming. Please read my reply to your latest comment on my blog. I am hoping more people will jump into the fray there, and I would urge you to do the same. I think we need to show these people that we are not isolated helpless individuals. Then they may not be so bold in trying to persecute us. Other than that, I am open to suggestions as to how to proceed.
